At Sunny Speech we prioritize ongoing education and learning. Thus, we created professional development trainings and parents education trainings in the areas of speech, language, and communication.   • In this training, we discuss the basics of speech and language development. We will learn about the foundation of language beginning with prelinguistic skills, receptive language, expressive language, pragmatics, and more. We will also learn many tips & tricks to use with your little ones in order to stimulate language development. We will discuss various myths on topics such as the use of sign language and the various effective ways to raise a bilingual child.

  • In this training, we will learn about all things related to bilingual language development. We will learn the benefits of bilingualism, debunk ongoing myths, discuss the steps of learning two or more languages, learn the multiple bilingual parenting styles, and more. The goal of this training is to help parents in deciding if they want to raise a bilingual child and are unsure where to start. This presentation is also offered to professional staff who want to learn more about bilingualism in language development so they can best accommodate bilingual children in their school.

  • In this training, we will learn all about receptive language- the understanding of language. We tend to assume that language and communication begin with talking when, in actuality, we must first understand language in order to produce it. We will discuss tips & tricks to stimulate the understanding of language to build a foundation for talking and producing language.

  • In this training, we will learn all about the first sounds babies produce, the difference between articulation & phonology, and common sound errors or patterns and the age at which they are remediated. We will discuss when it is appropriate to seek out professional help from a speech-language pathologist and the different ways to do so.

More Than Words- A Hanen Program.

Ashley is a Hanen certified SLP who conducts one-on-one or group sessions for the More Than Words program. This program is designed for parents of children on the autism spectrum or with social communication difficulties. In this program, we will review researched-based strategies to support your child’s social communication and play skills, while also focusing on connection and enjoyment together. We will learn what motivates your child to communication, how to set realistic goals, how to make meaningful interactions with your child last longer, strategies for how to talk to help your child understand you , strategies for developing your child’s play skills, and ways to help your child make friends.

This program includes: 8 training sessions with parents, a pre-program consultation, three individual visits for you and your child with your SLP in which you are video-recorded while practicing strategies we learned with your child. Then, we watch the video together to analyze the interaction to see what was working and what we can improve on.

Hanen More Than Words is an evidence-based program which offers practical strategies you can use in everyday situations. Our goal is to make communication and connection with you child more effortless, meaningful, and, most of all, fun!
